Weatherization

Effective August 17, 2009 Mountain Projects, Inc. received ARRA funds in the amount of $156,543 for the Weatherization Assistance Program.  These funds are allocated for the following purposes:  $140,147 will be used to pay staff including two new positions and to purchase equipment; $9,020 will be used for training and technical assistance; the remaining amount of  $7,376 is the indirect costs which includes an audit of the allocated funds.

To Apply For Weatherization:

To determine eligibility an appointment needs to be scheduled with an In-take worker.  The worker will tell you what type of documentation should be provided at the time of the application.  These items will include past twelve months of income, utility bills, proof of ownership, or landlord approval.    Upon completion of the application, the Housing Department will confirm the application and if the required income criteria have been met.  For homes that qualify, they will then schedule an appointment to complete a home energy audit.  Upon completion of the audit, the applicant will be notified if assistance can be provided.  Limitations such as dollar amount needed to fix the home and the state priority list may not enable every applicant to be served.  Homes that have received Weatherization services since September 30, 1994 are ineligible for service.  Applicants who are denied may request a review by agency director by sending a written request to 2251 Old Balsam Road, Waynesville, NC  28786.
